Shellfish Specialist, Partnership for the Delaware Estuary
Beginning with undergraduate research in oyster diseases at Rutgers University, Cheng continued to pursue research in the physiology of freshwater mussels while studying at Drexel University. Cheng has worked with oysters and ribbed mussels while at Rutgers University and currently works predominantly with freshwater mussels as the shellfish specialist at Partnership for the Delaware Estuary (PDE). Cheng works to improve freshwater mussel restoration through PDE's Freshwater Mussel Recovery Program. Whether sampling from a research vessel in the Delaware Bay or surveying for freshwater mussels in freshwater streams, Cheng aims to highlight the importance and beauty of our local bivalves.
